Jan. Board and General Meeting Posted Friday, January 11, 2008 by Jim Britt
ABC Annual Election and Minutes of Meeting January 10, 2008
President Jim Britt opened the meeting with a request that Jess Askew call for a nomination of re-election of full slate of officers for the year 2008. Betty Danielson did second. Congratulations to all the officers in the coming year!
Monty Cole discussed with the Board getting a trailer to store bikes for the Bikes for Tykes drive each Christmas. Fund raiser ideas on collecting pictures for a club calendar, CD, and to show at meetings and the Christmas party were discussed briefly.
Jim continued on with several announcements:
* Jim would like ABC to furnish $400 (early registration is $350 for early bird) on behalf of the individual who wishes to attend the upcoming Bike Summit next March in Washington, DC. If no one wishes to take advantage of this stipend, ABC will give the money to BACA to support their delegates to represent Arkansas.
* Betty Danielson is doing a great job with the membership. She will be printing membership cards for all current members as of 1/31/08. So join or renew your memberships if necessary now. She also asked members to log on to your accounts and correct capitalization and spelling errors on your names and addresses before the database is run. Mylar ABC window logos and a member list will also be included in the upcoming mailing of cards.
* Be sure to take advantage of all the information, journal capabilities and miles biked credited to ABC on bikejournal.com. If you are not already familiar with this great site, check it out, today!
* Dr. Rob Lambert, past president of ABC, will give a presentation concerning health and joints to the sports-minded at the Arkansas Running Klub meeting. ABC is invited and the presentation will be at Alliance Bible Church on Military Road, just north of Burns Park, Monday, 1/14/08, 7:00 PM. Some members will be riding there from Cook's Landing at 5:30 PM.
* Get your RAGBRAI application in by 2/10/2008. Register on-line at ragrai.org BUT DO NOT PAY THERE. Send your payment check and signed waiver to "ABC" c/o Jaime Hazlewood, 14 Foxcroft Village Dr., Little Rock, AR 72227 by Feb. 10th.
* Hotter than Hell registrations are now open. Go online to hh100.org.
* Note these dates for the Pre-prediction and Prediction ride: June 15 and June 22nd.
* The Natchez Trace 100 in Jackson , Mississippi will occur on April 12, 2008. For more info, check the Forum.
Ian Hope then hosted a raffle with prizes such as bicycle lights, gloves, toe and shoe covers, collectible ABC jerseys from the past and other items. There were around 25 items presented to the winners.
Steve Shepard with Orbea Bikes gave a very interesting presentation on the Orbea bicycles, highlighting their company, location in Spain and the manufacturing of the bicycles.
Jim then adjourned the meeting stating that our next meeting will occur at Pasta Jack’s with Danielle of Arkansas Sustainability Network. (Note: Danielle will not be able to come in Feb. but we will have the club jerseys for fitting and purchase.)
Respectfully submitted,
Jamie Hazlewood
ABC Secretary

Heath Talk at ARK meeting, Jan. 14 Posted Thursday, January 10, 2008 by Jim Britt
The Arkansas Running Klub has invited us to their meeting to hear Rob Lambert. Some of us will be riding over there (north edge of Burns Park) Monday, 5:30 PM from Cook's Landing. Jim
Greetings to All, and Happy New Year!
The January ARK meeting will be on the 14th at 7pm at the Alliance Bible Church on Military Drive at the edge of Burns Park, a half mile north of I-40 Exit 150. For a number of years, the church has graciously allowed ARK to hold our meetings there, as a gesture of community support.
We are very fortunate to have as our speaker, Rob Lambert, a cardiologist who has been a major sponsor of the River Trail, the Medical Mile section of the River Trail near downtown Little Rock and is an avid cyclist and promoter of healthy active living. Rob will speak to us and entertain questions about exercise, cardio issues, orthopedic issues of running, etc.
We always have snacks after a speaker's talk and encourage others to hang around for more questions and camaraderie.
Please come and bring a friend.
I hope to see you there!
Bob
