Arkansas Bicycle Club Meeting Minutes
February 12, 2009

The meeting was called to order around 6:50 PM by club president Jim Britt who made several announcements prior to the evening’s presentation.

-Blue Cross/Blue Shield is sponsoring the “Blue and You Fitness Challenge” and all club members are encouraged to participate. Details are at the website www.blueandyoufitnesschallenge-ark.com. Club code is “ABC” and group name is “Arkansas Bicycle Club”. Objective is to log in more activity hours than other participating clubs. Any form of exercise will count.

- It’s easy to join ABC or renew membership using the website secure online system or, if you prefer, a hard copy form can be printed and submitted per the instructions on site. We prefer on-line registrations and renewals. If you’d rather mail in a membership form, click on the large red “Join ABC” at the top of the homepage and look for the link near the bottom of the next page.

- Don’t forget the “Ride for the Noses”, March 1st @ 9 AM to benefit the LR Humane Society. Last year’s event raised over $1000. (Note: this ride has been postponed until April)

Following the announcements Tom Ezell, LCI, delivered a bicycling safety presentation covering group riding. Upcoming cycling courses will be posted on the ABC website.

Meeting adjourned at 8:00 PM. Next meeting is scheduled for 7PM, March 12, 2009 at American Pie, Maumelle.

We have a club 7-day Ozark - Ouachita Tour ride in April. More information is on the Forum / Rides and Training.

ABC NewsSylamo Trails Closed Posted Sunday, February 15, 2009 by Jim Britt

Wednesday, February 4, 2009
This was posted Wed Feb 4th....

This just in about the Sylamo from Hap Seliga from Chris Furr--
All of the trails on the Sylamore District are closed and will be for the next foreseeable future. It's not safe to ride or work, so please don't come until we can get a handle on this. We have crews out working long days, but after 4 days of work, Green Mountain road still wasn't even open to the Bad Branch Trailhead today. I'm not sure when we'll be able to start sawing out the trail, but the real danger is overhead hazards. Trees and tops that are hung up are still coming down today in the wind. We are doing everything we can and I will keep you posted. As soon as it's safe to ride or work I'll let you know.
