Quoting From the NLR "The Times"
"First of Main Street Bike racks are here
Main Street Argenta Director Michael Drake said Sunday that the two of eight new bike racks have been delivered and will be installed at the corners of Main & Fourth streets and Main and Broadway by the end of the month.
The rack design incorporates the latest in anti-theft methods including the potential for wheel removal by would-be thieves. Drake said the installation will be accomplished to minimize pedestrian use of the sidewalks at the locations. The plan is to eventually have a rack located at each corner of the block from Washington Ave to Eight Steet along Main Street."
Sounds like a sweet deal for river trail riders stopping in to eat at Cornerstone Deli and restaurants all along the newly developing downtown NLR area!
The Joe Martin Stage Race....what a blast! Race it! Volunteer and maybe get to meet the Pro's! Take a picnic and spectate! For the ABC singles - who knows...you might meet your next wife or husband there! This event is one of the premier stage road races in Arkansas! Check out the site....
Several ABC members have volunteered at past races in various capacities and reported incredible experiences!
Aw yeah...check out the volunteer status..."Each volunteer will receive a T-shirt and a fully-catered "THANK-YOU" party with prizes a few weeks after the race!"
Check out the sponsors! You know the Shwag will flow! I'm so excited I had to put on some Feat, with Arkansas's own Fred Tackett leading off the Flash intro. Aw yeah now...where is Chip, Cindy, Steve S, and Wesley C?
HB2511 (bicycle safe passing distance bill) passed out of Senate committee last week and is scheduled for a vote on the Senate floor sometime this week, possibly Monday. It appears to have little or no opposition, but please have all friends of cycling all over Arkansas contact their respective Senator(s) to ask them to support this bill. It will give greater protection to cyclists sharing the road with motor vehicles. Look for your State Senator at Click here>

Kewl info....
The Adventure Cycling Association has posted the route maps (for sale) of the Underground Railroad route....
"The history of this remarkable period comes alive as you pedal along the corridor that traces the Underground Railroad route from the Deep South to Canada. This bicycle route memorializes the Underground Railroad, a network of clandestine routes by which African freedom seekers attempted to escape for many years before and during the Civil War.
You can discover America’s legendary route to freedom from the best vantage point possible—your bicycle seat. Maps for the southern section of the Underground Railroad Bicycle Route are available now in our online store. Maps for the northern section of the route will be available in Winter 2006-7, and organized cycling tours will be offered in Spring and Summer of 2007."
The organization will also be conducting guided trips this Spring and Summer.
This just in from our friends at BACA:
Arkansas State House Bill 2511 (establishing a requirement of motorists giving
at least 3 feet of clearance when overtaking a bicycle) will be presented in
the House Public Transportation Committee tomorrow morning, March 13, 2007, at
10:00 a.m., or as soon thereafter as the business of the committee may permit,
in Room 428 of the Arkansas State Capitol. Please spread the word and get as
many friends and cyclists as possible to either contact their legislator(s) or
appear personally to support the bill. Thank you. Sorry for the short
notice.”
The 3 feet safe passage legislation has been adopted in many states. Its
adoption in Arkansas will help protect not only bicyclists but motorists as
well. It will also enhance the efforts of cities in Arkansas to achieve the
coveted Bicycle Friendly Community designation from the League of American
Bicyclists.
If possible, please come to Room 428 at the Capitol tomorrow to show your
support for HB 2511. Also, please take a few minutes to contact the House
Members who are on the Public Transportation Committee. The names of the
Transportation Committee members & a link to their e-mail addresses is found

We recognize that the late hour at which BACA received this notice & is forwarding it to you leaves little time to act. However, thanks very much for whatever you can do to help get this important bicycle safety measure enacted.

Arkleg,
then clicking on “Bills and Resolutions” on the left side of the screen, then clicking on “Full Text of a Bill” on the drop down menu, & then entering HB2511 in the box “2. Enter Bill Number ______ View Bill.”
We thank Erik and Chainwheel for his discussion on bicycle lights and the free lights. Items mentioned:

A new brochure has been printed and will be available at the local bicycle shops.
We are still looking for more members for the AR Bicycle Club team for the Tour de Cure March 31st. Sign up at ABC Tour de Cure
Among the many legislative items sneaking past the deadline today, here's a very nice proposal to establish a safe passing limit for motor vehicles passing cyclists... very similar to the Oklahoma law:

Something for the Club and BACA to get behind!!
Thanks Tom!

Minutes from the March BACA Meeting...lots of news in the cycling community!
Aw yeah...now here's a recipe for us cycling cheese lovers straight from the La Gazzetta dello CycleItalia....
A perfect way to use up bits of cheese left over from a tasting session, or make it a dish. Eight Ounces of cheese in total can be used (make one a grating cheese like Parmigiano-Reggiano or Grana Padano) for a pound or a bit more of dried pasta. (Gemelli, penne, fettuccine or farfalle all will work nicely).
All you need beyond that is a half-cup of cream, salt and freshly ground pepper. This recipe easily serves 6 or more-this is a RICH dish!
Combine cheeses (except grating cheese) and cream in saucepan over low heat. Cook and stir gently until cheeses are melted. Boil water in pasta pot, cook pasta according to package directions and drain. Dump the pasta water (save a half cup in case your sauce needs thickening) return the cooked pasta to the warm pot and add the cheese mixture. Stir well, and transfer to warm serving platter or dishes, top with grated cheese and serve immediately.
Buon appetito!
