Need SAG Vehicles - Volunteers - Tour De Cure... Posted Friday, March 28, 2008 by Sprokets
Good day:
Yesterday, I had two volunteers that were the SAG vehicles/drivers for the Tour de Cure "back-out" from volunteering. I need replacements!
SAG vehicles are support cars (or trucks, SUVs, etc) that ride the route and are able to transport both riders and bikes along the route if needed. If a rider has trouble (flat tire, wreck, or just can't go any further), the SAGs transport them either to a rest stop or back to Murray Park.
The Tour is next Saturday (April 5) from approximately 7:30 to 2:30. The route needed to be covered is from the sub at NLR to Tucker and back (approximately 40 miles - one way).
If you know ANYONE (team member's spouse, friend etc) who would like to volunteer their time and vehicle, please let me know ASAP!
Thank you all for what you do in our fight against diabetes.

March 2008 ABC Meeting Posted Wednesday, March 19, 2008 by Jim Britt
The meeting was held at American Pie, NLR. Kenny and Melissa Gober passed out fliers and invited all riders to the Tour de Hoot ride to support the Boys and Girls Club in McGehee, May 31. It sounded like there was a lot of interest in this new ride. Jim Britt said to reserve your hotel room right away if you are going on the overnight ride to Hot Springs April 19-20. Jim will be looking for workers soon to help at the booth at River Fest as we did last year on Memorial Day weekend. Jenn Shaw announced the Lance Armstrong team was coming to town May 7th. She has raffle tickets available with neat bicycling prizes and the money will go to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Robb Ayers with Arkansas Cycling and Fitness gave a good and interesting report on chain cleaning and maintenance tips. Ian has the ABC jerseys and shorts for sale and he can be contacted later to purchase some at ian_hope at sbcglobal.net

Arkansas Wine Tour 100s - May 3 Posted Saturday, March 15, 2008 by Sprokets
Grab your helmet and dust the rust off your bicycle chain! Area bicycle enthusiasts will have an opportunity to participate in the Arkansas Wine Tour 100s planned for Saturday, May 3, 2008 beginning and ending on the square in Altus, AR.
Pick your own pace as you ride through a panoramic tour of the scenic Arkansas Wine Country along the Arkansas River Valley. Areas along the various routes include Altus, Ozark, Paris, Subiaco, Scranton, Hartman, and Coal Hill. This mostly-flat ride has three routes – 100 miles, 100k (63 miles), and 17 miles. Riders of the 17-mile ride will be treated to a champagne brunch sponsored by Post Familie Winery upon completion of the route. The Winery's facility will remain open for riders to enjoy other refreshments until 2:00 p.m
Registration will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. at the gazebo on the southeast corner of the square in Altus. Registration fee on day of event is $35. Early entry fee is $30 by pre-registering online at www.archildrens.org using a credit card, or you can mail the registration form with your check payable to Arkansas Children's Hospital to Mrs. Millie Clayton, 2 Pinecrest Drive, Russellville AR 72801-4507. If mailed, must be received by May 1, 2008.
The 100 mile ride will begin at 8:00 a.m. followed by the 100k and the 17-mile rides. Rest stops will be included along the routes (in Scranton, Paris, and Ozark) with drinks and snacks provided. Helmets are required and all equipment must be in working order. A "sag wagon" will be available during registration to help with last minute repairs, and another will follow the tour. The course will close at 2:00 p.m. and after that time riders will be on their own.
The Arkansas Wine Tour 100s coincides with the Altus Springtime Gala, an annual celebration of spring which also features a 5K run and fun walk, arts and crafts show, live entertainment, games, antique car and truck show, food booths, and more.
This event is under the direction of the Arkansas River Valley Circle of Friends, a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit chapter of the Arkansas Children's Hospital. ALL proceeds will benefit Arkansas Children's Hospital. Additional information is available by contacting the event chair, Millie Clayton via email at millie81748@hotmail.com or on 479-880-7193.
