ABC NewsMinutes of July 2007 Meeting Posted Tuesday, July 17, 2007 by Jim Britt

Minutes from ABC meeting July 12, 2007-Mr. Mason’s Barbeque

With about 20 members present, Jim opened the meeting by asking Bruce to introduce our guest speaker, Officer Michelle Hill, public affairs liaison of the Little Rock Police Department. Officer Hill is an avid runner and bicyclist, herself. She would like to receive emails with folks’ questions regarding the laws that affect bicyclers. mhill@littlerock.org She wanted to urge all of us that park our cars at the Trail to refrain from having any valuable articles in sight in the car. There are many more criminals working the streets (esp. the River Trail) that have been successful in breaking into cars. Articles that are targets, such as CDs, digital cameras, cell phones and chargers, shoes (including nice tennis shoes) and anything else of perceivable value. She suggests driving down to the River with just your ID on your person and place what you can, locked in the glove box.

Doug McDowell states that he read that a law has been passed in Arkansas that allows a motorcyclist to go ahead through a traffic light if the red does not change because it was not triggered by your body mass. (We will try to get more information on this....NOTE: we found out that this new law applies only to motorcyclists, not bicyclists.)

Jim announced that the Arky 100 will be held on Sunday, Oct 14th.

Bruce announced that next Thursday at 6:30, July 19th, Chainwheel will host a party to get ready for the Orbea scratch and dent sale later in the weekend. Call him for details.

Monty is working on a cool design for a license plate that celebrates biking and running and sharing the road for this purpose. He wants to have the design complete within the next few weeks and will be taking it forward for finalization.

There will be no August ABC meeting. So we’ll see you in September. It will be time to elect some new Board of Directors.

Ian states that we have about 200 paid members of ABC. He thinks we will be able to register online for the Arky. He currently has two Xsmall ABC bike shorts and two med ladies jerseys for sale at our cost. He also asks that if you are copying the Tour de France, PLEASE let him know as he needs a copy!

Respectfully submitted,
Jamie Hazlewood

ABC NewsNLR Trail flooded Posted Monday, July 2, 2007 by Jim Britt

The trail is flooded as of July 1st at the little wooden bridge below the BDB on the NLR side (the usual spot). The water is probably a foot or more deep over the bridge, so you can wade through but it's a long stretch now. I understand that you can bypass this on the gravelly trail and bridge that have been built behind the Dept. of Environmental Quality bldg. The water could go down rapidly, but I'm guessing it will be high for week or longer due to the heavy rains in OK and KS.
