Arkansas Bicycle Club Minutes- September 13, 2007

President Jim Britt called the meeting to order. The food was delicious and the meeting facility and atmosphere was very conducive for a good meeting at Pasta Jack’s in Maumelle.

Annual election of new board members was accomplished. Betty Danielson and Judy McDowell were elected for a term that will run to 2010.

The plans for a great Arky 100 are really lining up. Volunteers are currently needed to man the rest stops. Online preregistration will be managed by Betty Danielson. She is also the general membership chair now. Outskirts Bike Shop of Bryant will be providing SAG assistance and run a rest stop. Other sponsors will be Chainwheel and Arkansas Cycling and Fitness. ABC is a sponsor of the Cycle-Chic Fashion show in the evening after the BDB ride.

Our October meeting will take place at Mr. Mason’s on the 2nd Thursday (Oct. 11th).

DECEMBER 7-8, 2007 (change; best to contact Willa to be sure)

Meet on Friday 5:30 PM and on Saturday 8:00 AM. These are 3 different offering of the same course.

Contact Willa to register. The course is $50. Meet at the Cooperative Extensive Bldg. on the north end of UALR. Bicycle and helmet needed for the Saturday training.

ABC NewsSept 29th - 2nd Annual Big Dam Bridge Ride Posted Wednesday, September 19, 2007 by Sprokets

The second annual Big Dam Bridge (BDB) 100 bicycle ride will be held September 29, 2007 beginning at 7:30 a.m. The start will begin on 5th and North Broadway in North Little Rock, go over the Broadway Street Bridge into Little Rock. The ride will take bicyclists over the Big Dam Bridge, the longest pedestrian bicycle bridge in the world.

This year's ride will be bigger and better, with an incredible finish line in North Little Rock. Main Street in North Little Rock will be closed to vehicular traffic as finishers and support join the street party beginning at about 10:00 a.m. Riders will have their choice of a 12, 25, 50, 75 or 100 mile ride. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Sept 29th, 7:00PM - Cycle-Chic A Fashion Show Of All Things Cycling

Paying homage to a recent London cycling fashion show,"Pret e Rouler", Cycle-Chic will highlight athletic wear and cycling gear for the tourist, enthusiast and hard core cyclist. From basic ensembles, to cutting edge chic, to the hottest new bikes this show has it all. Betty Long of Chainwheel will co-emcee the event.

Tickets are $15. Net proceeds benefit the Big Dam Bridge Foundation for support and development of the Arkansas River Trail.

Tim Vahsholtz, Event Director, says:"So many Arkansans have taken up cycling in the last few years. This event is a great opportunity to bring us together in a classy, fun atmosphere and celebrate everything hot and cool about cycling. Plus, proceeds will support the Big Dam Bridge Foundation and trail development.

Cycle-Chic sponsors include CHAINWHEEL, Orbea USA, Ozark Outdoors, Dillard’s, Deep Ultra Lounge and the Arkansas Bike Club. "Mr. Happy" will dj the event.

Caleb reports the following activities coming up at their Little Rock store.

Tuesday, Sept. 18
Women's bike maintenance clinic 6:30 pm
This free clinic will be facilitated by two of our female bike shop members and will cover the basics of bike cleaning, changing flats, making adjustments to shifting and braking, and finish with a Q & A session
We will also hold a drawing for prizes.
- Saturday, Sept 22
Pancake breakfast for all area riders 11:30 am, sponsored by Yakima
No matter where you end up riding on this Saturday, feel free to join us afterwards at the store for a free pancake breakfast.
- Monday evenings, 6:30 pm
Bicycle maintenance clinic
Free clinic every week covering the basics of bike cleaning, changing flats, adjusting shifting and braking, etc.
- Saturday mornings, 10 am
Easy road ride
Meet in the parking lot behind the store and ride an easy 15-25 miles with us along the River Trail
